Alyssa’s Story

Alyssa’s son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was about 14 years old. After her son’s diagnosis, Alyssa’s life became solely focused on the management of type 1 diabetes. Throughout her time in peer support she found acceptance, growth, and peace. Her son now has his driver’s license, checks his blood sugar throughout the day, remembers to pre-bolus almost all the time, and is afforded the same independence as teens without type 1. Next fall he will be traveling to Europe all on his own!
